CHOOSING THE RIGHT STAPLER FOR THE JOB

For most people, a stapler is just a desk tool that punches thin wire through several sheets of paper and crimps in the back to hold them together. But staplers have become an important trade tool over the years. They are used in a variety of applications, and thus, you have lots of choices when choosing a stapler. Lets take a quick look at the three major classes of staplers on the market.

Narrow Crown Staplers: Narrow crown staplers are generally used for finish and trim applications. This includes jobs such as molding, trim, cabinets, drawers, fascias and other fine-grained applications. The smaller crown allows the stapler to penetrate a surface without being very noticeable.

Medium Crown Staplers: Medium crown staplers are preferred in jobs that require a wider range of clinch than a narrow crown stapler. This may include jobs such as subflooring, pallet building, vinyl siding, furniture assembly and sheathing. While providing more clinch, there are still more rugged jobs that will require a wide crown stapler.

Wide Crown Staplers: Wide crown staplers and staples are intended for heavy-duty use - primarily in construction. This includes projects in truss building, housewrap, roofing, lathing and more. Wide crown staplers can be used for many of the same applications as a medium crown, but where it doesn't matter if the staple affects the appearance of your project.
